Colorado Wholesale Dye Corp. began life as a small company with the trade name “Grateful Dyes” registered in the state of Colorado way back in 1985. That year we started selling dye via mail order. We incorporated that trade name a few years later and in 1988 became “Grateful Dyes, Inc.” We own a US trademark for the name Grateful Dyes ™. and were soon “offical vendors” of Procion MX brand of dye that came directly from the American branch of the Imperial Chemical Company. ICI Americas (Imperial Chemical Company) was the company that invented this special type of dye, call “reactive type dye” back in the 1950’s. Procion MX is a brand name and was the name of the original reactive type dye and is therefore the top brand name of this type of dye. Over the years, the Procion brand name has been sold to many different major chemical companys, such as BASF and now is owned by a division of Bayer, the asprin company. Many years ago Bayer, stopped supporting the Procion MX brand name. They stopped selling “Procion MX” dyes and dyes under that brand name are no longer sold, to us or any other vendor. That is why we say we sell Procion MX type dyes. We sell cold water reactive dyes that are of the type of Procion MX. That is why we currently lable our dyes under our own “Premium Reactive” label.

Since we were long term Procion MX vendors, we knew the orginal overseas factory’s the dyes came from, and much of our dye is still sourced from the original Procion MX reactive dye manufacturers. Original Procion MX brand dyes were never made in China, and none of our high quality dyes are made in China.
